Department of Defense Selection

In March 2018, Benchmark Advance was selected by the Department of Defense to be the core reading program for Kindergarten through Grade 5 in its schools around the world. This choice by the agency has broad sweep, placing Benchmark Advance in the hands of approximately 50,000 K-5 students in 165 school buildings across North America, Europe, and Asia.

The selection of Benchmark Advance by the Department of Defense was the result of months-long rigorous review of highly competitive programs, leading the agency to conclude that the instruction in Benchmark Advance was best in field, and that the professional development plan and technology supporting Benchmark Advance combined to make it clearly superior. As a federal agency, the department must refrain from issuing an endorsement of an organization or product, but in the words of the contracting officer of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), the contract was awarded to Benchmark Education “as a result of a competitive solicitation, for a research-based literacy curriculum that will be deployed among DoDEA kindergarten through grade 5 students worldwide."
